The holiday season is upon us in full swing and for many, the stress level is rising. The National Retail Federation reports that consumers say they will spend an average $967.13 this year, according to the annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. That’s up 3.4 percent from the $935.58 consumers said they would spend when surveyed at the same time last year.
Much of the stress of the holidays is a result of overspending on gifts. Rather than running to the mall this year, standing in long lines with your shopping cart full of this year's latest gadget, consider personalizing your gift giving. Think about the person you're purchasing for and find unique gifts that suit their personality, not at the mall, but at your local consignment shop and other small businesses in your community. We love helping our Cedar Chest customers find unique items for gift baskets. Start with a designer bag (or inexpensive tote), box or tray and fill it up . . . For the fashionista: Cashmere or silk scarf, Ten PM designed by Shoshana Reich Shuly Gold Cuff bracelet*, leather belt, designer sunglasses, UGG Australia shearling boots ** and trendy clutch.
